How I Can Help Your
Pet Today...
How I can Help...
I aim to reach your pet’s full potential, whether it’s to improve their mobility, ease their pain, improve their fitness or help in their recovery after surgery or injury or any combination of these. I have a holistic approach to ensure your pet’s well being and help you to achieve the best outcome for your pet.
I will take time to fully understand your pet’s unique needs. A detailed assessment of your pet will include a thorough assessment of your pet’s posture and gait which will include a video analysis. Any imbalances or compensatory mechanisms will be identified as we design a personalised rehabilitation programme which will target these issues. This will lead to improved biomechanics and promote balance and improved coordination.
Before any rehabilitation can take place, it is essential that your pet is a comfortable and as free of pain as possible. I use a range of evidence-based techniques to enhance your pets well-being. This can include ultra- sound, soft tissue massage and neuro muscular electrotherapy to promote healing, reduce inflammation and optimise the effectiveness of rehabilitation.
Therapeutic exercises are also integrated into treatment plans, emphasising the importance of movement in promoting strength, flexibility, and coordination. These exercises are thoughtfully designed to meet your pet’s unique requirements.
I work with all the owners to provide them with knowledge and skills to support their pets at home and I am available to answers any queries that you may have during your pet’s rehabilitation journey.
I work closely with you and your veterinarian to ensure seamless communication and a personalised approach to treatment. The goal is always to improve your animal’s quality of life with a comprehensive and customised physiotherapy program.
Conditions Treated
Arthritis
Arthritis is a condition characterized by inflammation and stiffness in one or more joints, often resulting in pain and reduced mobility. Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in managing arthritis by focusing on alleviating pain, improving joint mobility, and enhancing overall function.
Treatment strategies typically include a combination of manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and electrotherapy. Additionally, physiotherapists educate the owners about joint protection techniques, ergonomic modifications, and appropriate exercises to maintain joint health and prevent further deterioration.
The goal is to empower the pet owners to manage their pet’s symptoms effectively, improve their quality of life, and maintain independence in daily activities.
Neurological Conditions
Neurological conditions encompass a wide range of disorders affecting the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves. These conditions often result in impairments such as muscle weakness, spasticity, loss of sensation, balance problems, and difficulty with coordination and movement.
Physiotherapy interventions for neurological conditions aim to maximize function, independence, and quality of life for individuals affected. Treatment approaches may include specialized exercises to improve strength, flexibility, and motor control, as well as gait training, balance retraining, and functional activities tailored to each pet’s specific needs.
Physiotherapists also play a key role in educating the owners in strategies for managing symptoms, preventing complications, and optimizing overall well-being. Through comprehensive assessment and personalised treatment plans, physiotherapists strive to help individuals with neurological conditions achieve their functional goals and enhance their participation in daily activities.
Muscular-Skeletal Injuries
Musculoskeletal injuries are disruptions or abnormalities in the structures of the musculoskeletal system, including muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons. These injuries can result from trauma, overuse, poor posture, or underlying medical conditions.
Physiotherapy plays a crucial role in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries, aiming to reduce pain, restore function, and promote healing. Physiotherapists assess movement patterns, biomechanics, and functional limitations to develop tailored treatment plans aimed at reducing pain, restoring mobility, and improving overall function.
Treatment approaches may include manual therapy
techniques such as massage, joint mobilisation, and soft tissue manipulation to alleviate muscle tightness and improve joint mobility. Additionally, therapeutic exercises are prescribed to strengthen muscles, improve flexibility, and enhance proprioception and balance.
Physiotherapists also educate the owners about ergonomic principles, injury prevention strategies, and techniques for management to facilitate long-term recovery and prevent recurrence of injuries. Through personalised care plans and comprehensive rehabilitation programs, physiotherapists empower the pet’s owners with musculoskeletal injuries to regain optimal function and return to their daily activities with confidence.
Orthopaedics
From a physiotherapist’s perspective, orthopedics is a specialized area of healthcare focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries.
These conditions may involve the bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons. Physiotherapy plays a central role in orthopedic care, working collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons and other healthcare professionals to optimize outcomes for patients.
Physiotherapists assess movement patterns, biomechanics, and functional limitations to develop tailored treatment plans aimed at reducing pain, restoring mobility, and improving overall function.
Treatment modalities may include manual therapy techniques, therapeutic exercise programs, joint mobilization, and modalities such as heat, cold, and electrical stimulation.
Through patient education, hands-on interventions, and ongoing support, physiotherapists help individuals with orthopedic conditions achieve their rehabilitation goals and return to an active, healthy lifestyle.
Post-Surgical Procedures
Post-surgical procedures involve the rehabilitation and recovery process following surgical interventions, aimed at restoring optimal function and mobility.
From a physiotherapist’s perspective, post-surgical rehabilitation is crucial for maximizing outcomes and minimizing complications. Physiotherapists work closely with veterinary surgeons to develop individualised treatment plans tailored to each pet’s specific needs and surgical procedures.
typically begins soon after surgery and may include pain management techniques, gentle exercises to improve range of motion, and gradual progression to more challenging activities as healing progresses.
Physiotherapists also provide guidance on wound care, scar management, and safe techniques for transferring and mobilising to ensure a smooth recovery process.
Treatments Available
Treatments may include manual therapies which include mobilising joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons for pain relief and restoring normal function.
I use a range of techniques such as soft tissue and joint mobilisation, manipulation, massage, myofascial release, and trigger point release.
I also offer electrotherapy treatments to enhance the effects of manual therapy such as ultra-sound
and Biomag therapy.
I am able to make bespoke orthotics and joint supports.
I am able to give advice on minor home adjustments that help animals perform tasks more easily.
