Meet Vinnie

Meet Vinnie, the adorable Vizler.

When he was 7 months old, his Mum and Dad took him for a walk and he decided to go on a small adventure and explore the woods. Unfortunately, Vinnie returned with a well and truly broken front leg. A set of X-rays revealed that he had fractured his right radius and ulnar.  He was sent to Bristol Vet specialists who repaired the break with plates and screws but it was complex surgery because the breaks were so near to his growth plates and he was still a puppy. After a short stay in hospital, he was sent home and ready to start his rehabilitation. I was warned by the vets that Vinnie liked to give kisses!

When I saw Vinnie for the first time, he was non weight bearing through his leg. He was a lovely boy and wanted to please and be loved but he was understandably very nervous of his leg being handled. The first physio session was spent reassuring Vinnie and letting him get used to his limb being touched. We managed to encourage him to put his foot to the ground. This was an important part of his rehabilitation as we didn’t want him to develop any complications such as contractures of his tendons.  We were able to massage around his scar line and start some very gentle stretches and strengthening exercises. And yes I received plenty of cheesy kisses!

Vinnie made a steady progress and we were able to advance his exercises and rehab as the bones began to heal. Vinnie has made a wonderful recovery, which was down to his very dedicated Mum and Dad. I am pleased to say to that he is running around and catching up on all the things puppies do. Just watch out for the cheesy kisses!!
